TEAM-BUILDING USING THE MYERS-BRIGGS TYPE INDICATOR
The use of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator within organizations
has grown significantly as company leaders have recognized
its practical usefulness in addressing concerns such
as:
Communication effectiveness
Conflict resolution
Appreciation for differing work
styles
Leadership and management development
Team building
opportunities
The above concerns can be addressed using the MBTI® to
facilitate understanding among co-workers and team members
in an organization. Benefits of the group facilitation include:
A focus on how individuals take in information and
how they prioritize data to make decisions
An opportunity
for individual workers to clarify and better understand
their personal work style
preference while also addressing
possible areas of weakness
Understanding and appreciation
for differences in how individuals solve problems,
communicate
thoughts and work under stress
Concrete ways to approach
effective team-building among co-workers in accomplishing
goals and delivery of services
Avenue of enhancing the
interpersonal relationships among participants
thus improving the organization
Career Span offers the administration, scoring
and interpretation of the MBTI® to promote team
effectiveness and cohesion. Each MBTI® team
session is structured to meet the specific goals
of the workshop.
For example, if communication effectiveness is a primary
concern of team members, the workshop exercises will be directed
toward ways of increasing communication effectiveness. Career
Span requires the following based on ethical guidelines to
administer the inventory:
Each employee who participates in the group facilitation
has done so on a voluntary basis
The MBTI® results belong
to the employee and will be shared only as the individual
wishes
The results are strictly confidential and cannot
be used to hire, promote or terminate an individual
